Advocate of the Year
The Alumni Associations of the University of California (AAUC) acknowledges outstanding individuals who have helped shape the future of higher education in California. For the past ten years, a state legislator has been recognized as "Legislator of the Year Award." Begun in 2004, “Advocate of the Year” award recipients have been honored for their efforts on behalf of the entire University of California community.
2009 AAUC Legislator of the Year Award is presented to The Honorable Gene Mullin, California State Asssemblymember 2002-2008
As the author of AB 2296, he worked to craft legislation to protect academic researchers and their families who are victims of threatening and destructive tactics employed by extremist activities, without jeopardizing legitimate and lawful expressions of free speech. Furthermore, he is honored for his longstanding commitment and service to public education and his extraordinary dedication to youth, government and the civic process.
